JOANNA

WHO

I’m a newly graduated Chinese Medicine practitioner. Before that, I spent 12 years as a beauty editor for Sunday Times Style and a beauty director for Stylist magazine. I’m also the proud mother of a 2 year old daughter, Noah

FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WHAT YOU DO

Being a part of the healing process for women and the connectedness that comes from shared human stories

LISTENING / WATCHING / READING

Podcasts – On Being, Everything Iconic, Qilogical

Music – FKA Twigs, Deftones, Warpaint

SWEAR-BY BEAUTY TIP

Firmly pressing the inner corners of the brow bone, followed by the temples to brighten and clear the eyes, works a treat for screen fatigue too

SWEAR-BY HAIR TIP

Use the Dizziak conditioner as a styling product to create a slick wet look – it’s the only thing that won’t harden like a gel

A SMALL JOY

An ice-cold picante margarita

WASH ROUTINE

I have super oily hair, so I wash it everyday. I only use Dizziak shampoo / conditioner every three washes because it’s special! I never bother blow-drying, I prefer the natural texture it gets from the air

WHY DIZZIAK

It feels like an indulgent facial for my hair; nourishing, hydrating, recalibrating. It softens my hair so I find I wear it down more often on Dizziak days

GREAT HAIR MEMORY

The month I spent in Cambodia, when the sun lightened the hair around my face and the sea doused it with salt

NIGHTMARE HAIR STORY/STAGE

Where to begin? I dyed my hair black at 17 (skateboarding-related). Bleached it myself for years in my twenties (it snapped off)

ICONIC FIGURE

Barbara Hepworth + Madonna – both transcended the confines of the patriarchy to triumph in their respective artforms

IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW

Anywhere south of the equator, near a large body of water, at sunset

ONE THING YOU WOULD LOVE TO DO

Get to a point where I’m able to offer pro bono treatments to help widen forms of access to Chinese Medicine

WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT FOR 2021

Movement — in all its forms, micro, macro, personal, professional
